King Pine and Purity Spring go GREEN
The history of "preserving the environment" by the Hoyt Family is a fascinating
tradition that began decades ago.
Purity Spring Resort has been owned and operated by the Hoyt family since its beginning in the late 1800's. Edward E. Hoyt, founder of Purity Springs Farms, started with a small country inn, sawmill and a water-bottling operation. Now known as Purity Spring Resort, over one thousand acres has remained in the Hoyt family since that time.
Edward Hoyt had received numerous offers to buy the lakefront property during the lean years of the war in the early 1900's. He refused, wanting to preserve Purity Lake as one of the last "undeveloped" lakes in New Hampshire.
When Edward Hoyt passed away in 1952, he split his property between his 2 children, Milt & Ellen. Ellen received the land on the eastern lakeshore and generously donated the property to the Audubon Society of New Hampshire.
With the 4th and 5th generations of the Hoyt family currently running operations at Purity Spring, the family continues to seek ways to minimize its footprint and is currently reviewing a number of alternatives that would dramatically cut back its energy use. The Hoyt Family has been respectful of the environment through the generations.
"Preserving the land for the future enjoyment of our children. it is just the right thing to do."
Edward E. Hoyt
The following is a basic review of ongoing efforts by the Hoyt family in preserving the environment.
