King Pine Competition Programs Recap - March 30, 2009What a year it has been for the Season long programs at King Pine! From Knee Hi, to Team Ski/ Ride, Race Team and the Snowboard Freestyle Team. We have a bunch of motivated kids that love to ski and ride. We also have a bunch of fun and motivated instructors and coaches. Many know that King Pine’s competition programs have been building a reputation over that last few years for producing top athletes and great skiers and riders. This year has certainly been a fun one for all involved. In our small but mighty Freestyle Snowboard Team, we have 3 athletes, Morgan Ramsey, Zack DeGroot, and James Ramsey. They compete in USASA Freestyle sactioned events throughout New Hampshire. Each has had podium results in SL and GS as well as strong results in Slopestyle. Their rankings have earned them a berth at Nationals which will be held at Copper Mountain. One of our snowboard intructors, Matt MacDonald will be competing at Nationals in Boarder X. In the ski racing world the results were quite exciting as well and they’re not over yet. The King Pine Race team qualified 14 athletes to the Buddy Werner League New Hampshire State Championships at Mount Cranmore. Qualifiers were Maddie Glavin, Maya Bernier, Emma Niiler and Kendall Miller in the J5 Girls, Thomas Welch and Andrew Belle-Isle in the J5 boys, Isabelle Strachan in the J4 girs, and Matt Hill, Danny Nash, William Madden Tyler Eldridge, Asa Frankowski, Jake Remick and Bruce Taylor in the J4 Boys. In the 4 catagories, J5 girls, J5boys, J4 girls and J4boys, KPRT had 3 of the top seeds coming from the Eastern divison. That’s Emma Niiler, Isabelle Strachan, and Asa Frankowski. Leading the charge for KP was Isabelle Strachan. She simply dominated the field, winning the slalom by 2 seconds, the GS by 3.8 seconds and the Super G by almost a second. Asa Frankowski also came up big posting a 4 th place run result inGS and a 3rd place run result in SL. These finishes earned Asa and Isabelle an invitation to the Future Stars Training camp at Okemo in Vermont. At the Future Stars race Both Asa and Isabelle had great finishes and earned an invitation to the Can- Am (Canadian American) J4 Championship at Sugarloaf on 4/11-12. This establishes them as amoung the very top in the Eastern US. Wow! In the J5 world Emma Niiler and Maddie Glavin both had terrific results at Cranmore. Emma was 3rd in the GS and Maddie was 2nd in the Slalom. Both were named to New Hampshire’s team to the PIche Invitationa race at Gunstock. This race features the top J5 aged athletes from the the Eastern US. Once again the King Pine Kids were up to the challenge. Among this elite field, Maddie was 7th and Emma was 3rd, actuallly winning the 2nd run. Way to go girls... And they did it all with smiles on. In the J3 world we were thrilled that 5 of our J3 athletes qualified to race in the elite and demanding regional race series: Elizabeth Welch, Elyse Clancy, Boo Strachan, Danny MacDonald, and Kurt Niiler. At the State Finals at Cannon Boo and Kurt were named to the J3 state team. We are also very proud of Elyse Clancy who qualified and went the the Eastern J3 Junior Olympics at Gore Mountain in New York. Competing against the top academy programs she did great, and Elyse is only in her first year as a J3. In another related story, King Pine Kids really showed their stuff at the ESSC’s snow day events, Winning the boys and the Girls purple race and taking the top 3 spots in the boys proficiency and combined. Seeing great results is exciting, but what is most rewarding is seeing the sense of accomplishment on all of our seasonal program participants faces as they finish up their ski season. Many of whom skied at KP even on the last day in the pouring rain. Still with that King Pine smile on their face.
